Sandy Shamburek
Sandy Shamburek graduated from the University of Wisconsin-Madison with a Bachelor Degree in the
School of Consumer Sciences with emphasis in Retail Management. Her career started as a department
manager, retail buyer and sales representative. She also was an office manager and real estate escrow
officer at a local law firm while raising her two children with her husband, Peter. She is now retired.
Sandy has volunteered in numerous not for profit and school district programs. She was a Naperville
Jaycee from 1988 to 1996 where she served as the first woman President in the 1992-1993 term. She
also was chairperson of the Last Fling as well as numerous other chair positions and worker positions.
Sandy was involved in other areas of the community as well. She was on the auction committee of Little
Friends numerous years and also was chairperson of the NCO Youth and Family Services (now 360 Youth
Services) auction. She served as Secretary of the District 203 Naperville Education Foundation for several
years.
Sandy was President at Hobson pre-school, which is a volunteered based pre-school. Hobson is focused
on a play to learn educational system. She also ran the annual Auction and volunteered in numerous
other capacities.
From Hobson Pre-School Sandy jumped into volunteering at Maplebrook School in District 203. Here
she eventually became the President of Maplebrook Home and School. She was also instrumental at
procuring funding for the south side playground at the school.
Sandy became President of the District 203 Home and School Board overseeing all 21 school Presidents.
She worked closely with the District 203 Superintendent and the executive board. During her time as
President she focused on development of the Home and School Presidents.
After her term as Home and School President Sandy volunteered on the District 203 School Family
Community Partnership (SFCP) committee where she eventually became the Chairperson of SFCP. This
organization was focused on bringing the schools, families and community together to help the schools
focus on issues that are important to all three of these communities.
In addition to her volunteering already listed Sandy was involved with youth recreational and leisure
activities through her involvement with swimming and waterpolo. She is a founding member of the
West Suburban Waterpolo Club.
Sandy looks forward to working with staff and the community on funding for various physical school
improvement projects.
